Welcome
A little about me
New: I just realized, it may not be all that obvious that there is actually some content here. I'm putting all my updates right now into blog posts, which you can view from the nagivation menu (or just use this link).
My name is John Stegeman, and I'm (update!) deaf. I've been HOH since the age of 3, when I had meningitis. I'm now 48 years old. My left ear has worked well enough that a hearing aid has helped me hear pretty well for most of my life; my right ear doesn't work well at all - I can hear the bass notes of music with it when I wear a headset. Now that I'm getting older, my hearing is starting to get worse with what's probably just the normal age-related decline in hearing. I had Cochlear Implant surgery on October 14, 2015, and that has removed what little hearing I had remaining in that ear, so I'm now classified as deaf. Once the implant is activated (soon!), I should be able to "hear" again, but I'll forever be deaf
I've got a wonderful wife, 5 great children, and a new son-in-law. I've decided to start this web site and blog to share my experiences of what life is like as a HOH person and to tell my story as I start the process of considering getting a cochlear implant or implants. I'm not sure where I'll go with this site or how much time I'll have to spend on it, but I'm motivated to do something at the moment, so here we go....
Feel free to follow me on Twitter (@stegemanoracle)
