No posts here in a while... sorry about that. It seems to be a common thing when people start blogging about their CI - after they are hearing really well, life takes over and consumes all free time (isn't that the way it always is)?
Things continue to go very well with my CI - to the point where I really don't have much to add. I am hearing very well, both in quiet, and even in noisy/group situations. I think I have an advantage in that I've worn a hearing aid my whole life, so my brain already knows how to filter out some of the excess noise. Our daughter Chloe is finally home after 86 days in hospital. She is doing very well - she's still on a small bit of supplemental oxygen and an apnea monitor. Having a CI and being able to hear is fantastic. It's already a little scary having our lovable preemie at home with the oxygen tube and monitors, and if I couldn't hear her cry or the apnea monitor screaming (it's done that only when the leads come loose so far), I would be terrified. I've even been sleeping with the CI on for the past week, and I wake up when she cries (she's a quiet crier), so I couldn't be more pleased.

In my "spare" time, I've been working on a new project... There are people who blog about their CI on their own personal blog sites on the Internet. There are even discussion groups (usually specific to a particular CI manufacturer) where people can ask questions and discuss things. There are even (I'm told) Facebook groups and other virtual places for people to meet and discuss their CI experience. However, I've not found a place where all of the interaction can come together. A place where anyone can have their own blog to share stories, anyone can participate in a discussion forum, and share tips. So, I decided to create such a place - http://mycochlearimplant.com. It's not done yet, but it's up-and-running with the blogs area. I've already moved all of my blog posts from here over there, you can check it out on http://mycochlearimplant.com/blog/jstegeman Anyone can register and post their own blog entries. The discussion forum isn't ready yet, but hopefully I can find time to get that up and running this week.
Have a look over there and let me know what you think.
Happy hearing.
